Sofia Salazar-Rubio
Sofia is originally from the picturesque Pacific Northwest, but was fortunate to stumble upon classes at the San Francisco Mothership over a decade ago. She received her General Skills and Teacher Training certifications in 2015 and is honored to be a member of FatChanceBellyDance®.
Before beginning her FCBD®Style education, Sofia studied Egyptian cabaret under the direction of the esteemed Nanna Candelaria. As a cabaret student, Sofia was terrified of dancing solo—you can imagine her delight when she discovered an entire dance form committed to group improvisation! Once she caught the FCBD® bug, she never looked back.
As a technique obsessive, Sofia is passionate about continuously improving and refining her own technique and helping others elevate their dance to the next level. Sofia also enjoys exploring the freedom within the boundaries of FCBD®Style as a founding member of Tessera Dance.
When she isn’t dancing, Sofia produces, edits, and co-hosts the “The Cue,” an FCBD®Style-focused podcast (available on SoundCloud, iTunes, and Spotify), with her fellow FCBD® troupemate and real life BFF Jesse Stanbridge. With her thoughtful and unique insights, Sofia is becoming a well-known voice in the FCBD®style community.
On the weekdays (and some weekends), Sofia is an attorney and wrangles two cats with her long-suffering partner Steven. She is an avid donut eater, fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, karaoke enthusiast, and a novice tropical fishkeeper.
